Regulations governing admission
to Musikene for the 2004-2005 academic year

Below is a list of the areas of specialization available at
musikene for the 2004-2005 academic year:

Two: Academic requirements
2.1. To be eligible for admission to upper level music studies,
candidates must hold a certificate of upper level secondary
education (bachillerato) and have successfully completed third
year intermediate level music studies, as stipulated in Organic
Law 1/1990, article 40.3, dated 3 October. They must also
pass the regular entrance examination regulated by Ministerial
Decree dated 25 June 1999, section nineteen, which determines
whether candidates possess the knowledge and skills needed
to take full advantage of their area of specialization.
2.2. Candidates who do not meet either or both of the academic
requirements described in the preceding paragraph may also
be eligible for admission to upper level music studies by
passing the special examination. As laid down in section twenty
of Ministerial Decree dated 25 June 1999, the special examination
adds a specific exercise to the regular entrance exam. The
purpose of the specific exercise is to allow candidates to
demonstrate the appropriate intermediate level knowledge and
competence, as well as the specific skills needed to take
full advantage of the area of specialization requested.
Three: Entrance
examination results and validity
Passing the entrance examination entitles students to enrol
in upper level music studies at musikene for the school year
corresponding to that specific examination announcement only,
i.e. the 2004-2005 academic year. Therefore, if a student
passes the examination but is not awarded a place in the programme,
and continues to be interested in studying at musikene, he
or she must repeat the entire examination process in future
announcements.
Four: Examination
schedule
4.1. Entrance examinations for upper level music studies will
be held from 28 June through 10 July 2004 at the musikene
campus.

4.2. At least one week before each part of the exam, the dates
and times will be posted on the school bulletin board and
on the musikene website: www.musikene.net.
As stipulated in Ministerial Order of 25 June 1999, section
twenty, candidates shall perform the specific exercise included
in the special examination before taking the regular examination.
The specific exercise will be held on 28 June; subsequently,
the regular examinations will be held for all candidates by
area of specialization.
Five: Examination
Boards
5.1. Ministerial Order of 25 June 1999 provides that there
shall be one Examination Board for each area of specialization
to evaluate the entrance examinations. Each board will consist
of an uneven number of members, with a minimum of three, from
the corresponding area of specialization or, in the absence
thereof, from a similar specialization.
5.2. In order to adequately assess the entrance examination,
the Examination Board may request support from any instructors
from associated areas of specialization considered necessary.
5.3. Members of the Examination Board will be designated by
the competent bodies of musikene.
Six: Entrance
examination structure and content
6.1. The structures of the regular and special entrance exams
are laid down in sections nineteen and twenty, respectively,
of Ministerial Decree of 25 June 1999.

Seven: Guidelines
for submitting applications
7.1. Application forms may be submitted from 30 March to 15
May 2004 directly to the musikene campus; they may also be
sent in by registered post or via the above-mentioned website.
7.2. Applicants shall indicate their choice of studies, with
a maximum of three areas of specialization. Candidates seeking
to apply to more than one area of specialization shall indicate
their order of preference.
7.3. The application forms available at musikene must include
a copy of the candidate's national identity card or passport,
and proof or payment of registration fee. Candidates may also
register online through “entrance examinations”
at www.musikene.net. If registration is done through the website,
the required documents must be sent in by registered post.
7.4. Registration shall not be considered completed until
all of the documents listed above have been received by musikene.
7.5. No application forms or documents will be accepted if
postmarked or sent online later than 15 May 2004.

Eight: Registration
fees
8.1. The entrance examination registration fee established
by musikene for the 2004-2005 academic year is 60 euros for
each area of specialization. Payment of registration fees
shall be made to the bank account number provided below. A
receipt of the transaction shall be sent in to musikene with
the remaining documentation, as specified in the previous
section.

8.2. Should candidates choose to apply to various areas of
specialization, a separate registration fee shall be paid
for each, except in the case of Pedagogy associated with a
vocal or instrumental area of specialization, since the exam
is the same for both.
8.3. If a candidate would like musikene to provide them with
a piano or other type of accompanist, there will be an additional
cost of €120 for the 2004-2005 academic year.
Nine: Examination
scoring
9.1. The regular entrance examination will be given a score
ranging from zero to ten points based on the average of the
scores obtained in each part of the exam. Each part shall
be weighted according to its relationship with the specific
area of specialization.
9.2. With regard to the special entrance examination, the
specific exercise will also be given a score of between zero
and ten points. As stipulated in Ministerial Order of 25 June
1999, section twenty, the specific exercise shall not be eliminatory.
Therefore, the score for this exercise will be included in
the overall score earned in the regular examination.
9.3. In order to pass the entrance examination (regular or
special), candidates must have an overall score of five or
above. The Examination Boards will post both overall scores
and individual scores for each part and section of the examination
on the musikene bulletin board. Definitive examination results
will be published in the corresponding official documents.
Ten: Enrolment
10.1. Students who have passed the entrance examinations and
are selected in accordance with the number of available places
in each area of specialization, must officially enrol between
14 and 23 July 2004.
10.2. Prior to completing the enrolment procedure, students
shall show proof successful exam completion date, as provided
for in article 3 of these regulations; the following documents
must also be submitted:
– Certified copy of national identity card or passport.
– Candidates holding a certificate of upper secondary
education (bachillerato): certified copy of upper secondary
education certificate or proof that such documentation has
been requested.
– Candidates who have successfully completed intermediate
level music studies:
a) Students who have studied under the Spanish LOGSE educational
plan governed by Organic Law 1/1999: Certified copy of the
official school register (libro de escolaridad), or certificate
issued by the corresponding music conservatory indicating
successful completion of intermediate level studies.
b) students who have studied under the educational plan governed
by Decree 2618/1966: certified copy of teaching certificate
or certificate issued by the corresponding music conservatory
indicating successful completion of corresponding studies.
10.3. If the above-mentioned credentials are lacking, the
place shall be given to the next candidate on the list.
10.4. If places are available musikene may award them to other
students who have successfully completed the entrance exam
process at another music conservatory or upper level music
school.
10.5. These students must submit their applications
between 26 and 30 July 2004 at the office of musikene. Application
decisions will be taken by the competent body.
10.6. If there are more candidates than available
places, musikene will offer an internal exam to determine
which applicants have the most appropriate capacities and
specific skills for the area of specialization requested.
Candidates shall be notified of the dates, place and content
of the internal examination at least 15 days prior to such
exams.
Eleven: Students who have already
initiated upper level music studies
a) Students having studied under the educational
plan governed by Decree 2618/1966.
Students who have already initiated upper
level music studies under the 1966 educational plan are eligible
to take the musikene entrance examination. The Examination
Board will subsequently decide on the most appropriate year
of study for such students according to their level of expertise.
In all cases, musikene may validate the subjects already taken
by students pursuant to current legislation.
b) Students who have already initiated upper
level music studies at another establishment or conservatory
in Spain under the educational plan governed by Organic Law
1/1990, dated 27 October.
These students must submit their admission application from
26 to 30 July 2004 to the office of musikene. Decisions will
be taken by the competent body based on the following criteria:
1. Successful completion of first year studies
or 35 credits.
2. The maximum time allowed for completing exam requirements
as set forth in the Continuance Regulation (Normativa de Permanencia)
has not been exhausted.
3. The musikene administration may accept transfers of academic
records after the places have been filled by students who
have passed the entrance examinations for the 2004-05 school
year and according to diverse criteria, which in all cases
shall be made known prior to the admission application deadline.
Once admitted, students shall present their
letter of admission to their previous school and ask that
their academic records be transferred to their new studies.
c) Students who have already initiated upper
level music studies at musikene under the educational plan
governed by Organic Law 1/1990 dated 27 October, and wish
to change their area of specialization.
1. musikene students who wish to change from
one area of specialization to another must take the entrance
examination established for the new speciality. If students
are accepted to the new area of specialization the successfully
completed subjects common to both specializations shall be
automatically validated.
2. Only in cases where students wish to change from an instrument
specialization to the Pedagogy associated with that instrument,
or vice versa, can they change without having to take the
specific entrance examination, as it is common to both. Depending
on the spaces available in the new area of specialization,
the change will take place the year after the request has
been made.
