Royal Decree 617/1995 of 21 April

For candidates who do not fulfil the academic requirements:

Candidates who do not hold a Bachiller diploma (upper secondary education) and/or have not completed their third year of intermediate level music studies as set forth in the Spanish LOGSE system (or those who have not successfully completed the intermediate level studies regulated by Decree 2618/1966) are required to complete a specific non-disqualifying exercise prior to the general audition. They must also complete Part a) in its entirety for each selected speciality.

Examination structure

Candidates who do not hold the upper secondary education certificate must complete an exercise which will involve commenting on a text of a humanistic nature. Candidates will be expected to write an essay on a subject related to the text and will be given an hour and a half to complete the exercise.

The purpose of this exercise is to assess candidates’ intellectual and personal maturity through the use of language, comprehension of concepts and the ability to relate and synthesize.

The Department of Schools will prepare the content to be included in the examination. It will then be delivered to the audition panel in a sealed envelope and opened in the candidates’ presence at the beginning of the exercise.

Candidates who have not completed the third year intermediate level studies stipulated by the LOGSE, or who have not successfully completed the intermediate level studies laid down in Decree 2618/1966, will complete a theoretical-practical exercise consisting of the following:

a. Aural capacity: realization of a dictation in two voices and a rhythmic-melodic dictation.
b. Comprehension and use of the different harmonic resources: harmonic exercise in four voices.
c. Knowledge of music theory and history: Candidates will respond in writing to a series of questions on the different periods in music history and on music theory corresponding to the intermediate level of music education established in the new educational system.

The special examination, based on specific exercises, is non-disqualifying and will be held prior to the specific admission audition for each areas of speciality.
