Definition
Erasmus is the EU's education and training programme in higher education within the Lifelong Learning Programme. Its aim is to contribute through lifelong learning to the development of the EU as an advanced knowledge society, with sustainable economic development, more and better jobs and greater social cohesion. Erasmus also aims to foster interaction, cooperation and mobility between education and training systems within the EU, so that they become a world quality reference. The LLP will run for seven years (2007-2013).
The Erasmus sub-programme includes a series of measures for mobility and cooperation in higher education across Europe. Its different actions not only address students wishing to study and work abroad, but also higher education teachers and enterprise staff intending to teach abroad and to higher education staff seeking training abroad. In addition, Erasmus supports highereducation institutions to work together through intensive programmes, networks and multilateral projects as well as to reach out to the world of business.

LLP-Erasmus at Musikene
Musikene has participated in the Erasmus initiative since the 2003-2004 academic year, when it joined the Socrates programme.
At present Musikene develops its international mobility and cooperation activities based on the 2007-2013 Lifelong Learning Programme, and is committed to developing strategies which involve the entire educational community.
In addition, the music education offered at Musikene is an ideal vehicle for combining the concepts that make up another one of the mottos of this new programme: linking culture and education.
The proposed objectives are to:
- Facilitate continuous training, taking into account students’ development before, during and after their time at our institution.
- Foster mobility among Musikene students, instructors and staff.
- Ensure quality procedures in mobility management.
- Implement transversal projects in the different areas of music dissemination.
- Strengthen ties with already existing associated institutions and enter into new agreements.
- Adapt study plans to the European Higher Education Area and incorporate the ECTS credit system.
- Develop programmes aimed at integrating foreign students and promoting diversity.
- Provide guidance to the education community on the training and professional development possibilities available through the European Union.
The strategies for attaining these objectives will be to:
- Incorporate all of the work, procedures and projects involved in the programme in our website: www.musikene.net
- Help develop musikenet, a platform for publicising the programme and integrating the projects into the development of the institution.
- Draw up a global assessment plan for the internal management of the Erasmus Programme and, based on the conclusions, propose a strategic improvement plan.
- Participate in internal and cooperation projects to spread music appreciation and knowledge on a national and European level.
- Participate as an active member in different associations such as the AEC, Spanish International Coordination Committee, etc.
- Create and develop our own study programmes.
- Lay the foundations for undertaking a project for bringing foreign teachers and students to the institution.
- Elaborate and implement a guidance programme for the education community.
Student mobility for study purposes
The aims of Erasmus student mobility are:
- To allow students to benefit educationally, linguistically and culturally from the learning experience in other countries.
- To promote co-operation between institutions and to enrich the educational environment of host institutions.
- To contribute to the development of a pool of well-qualified, open-minded and internationally experienced young people as future professionals.
- To facilitate credit transfer and recognition of periods abroad, utilising ECTS or a compatible credit system.
The programme consists of students taking part in a period of study in an institution of higher education in another European country. At the end of the period abroad, the home institution must give full academic recognition for satisfactorily completed activities. During the period students are exempt from paying tuition fees at the host institution. Students are provided with a "Learning Agreement" setting out the programme of studies to be followed at the host institution. At the end of the period abroad, the host university must provide the Erasmus student and his/her home university with a transcript confirming that the agreed programme has been completed and confirming the results. Erasmus grants are compatible with any other type of national grants or loan.
The Erasmus mobility period is a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months.
Student grants from the European Commission help cover travel and subsistence costs incurred in connection with the study period abroad (i.e., food allowance, travel costs, housing, etc.)
