Erasmus is the area of the SOCRATES programme dedicated
to backing cooperation in different fields of higher education.
ERASMUS includes a wide range of actions designed
to support the European activities of institutions dedicated to
the teaching of higher studies. Its goal is to promote the
mobility and exchange of its students and teaching staff
in the endeavour to foster awareness among European citizens.
Erasmus student mobility:
«Bringing students to Europe, bringing Europe to all students»
The Erasmus programme permits students of higher studies to spend
part of the school year (from 3 to 12 months) in another country
belonging to the university agreement scheme (list
of associated schools).
The major advantages of Erasmus cooperation agreements
are academic recognition and exemption from the payment of academic
fees in the country of destination. This means that the SOCRATES/ERASMUS
study period forms a comprehensive part of the student’s studies
at his or her university of origin, and that all of the subjects
passed are fully recognized. Besides this, Erasmus
students are potentially eligible for a grant to help them
compensate for the costs of having to move abroad, such as travel
expenses, linguistic preparation and differences in the cost of
living.
The Erasmus experience is extremely rich, not only
from the academic and social points of view, but also with respect
to future professional life. Apart from learning another language,
Erasmus permits students to discover another way of thinking, of
teaching and of understanding studying, thus contributing to the
overall education of the student in question. In addition to this,
an Erasmus experience in the field of music permits the student
to discover different repertoires.
All higher studies students from the associated
countries, except for those enrolled in the first year, can participate
in the Erasmus programme.
